  • Place completed hearts in a “Read Your Heart Out” box then display them in a prominent place.

  • Weekly have a “Read Your Heart Out” Raffle.  Winners will receive bookmarks, pencils, stickers, books, or gift certificates.

Dr. Seuss Trivia:

Develop trivia questions to be read on the school news show.  The class with the most correct answers on their answer sheet will win a prize.

Purchase Dr. Seuss plush animals and books to be won in a random drawing, or to be awarded as prizes for a trivia or book contest.

Transform a special area in the school into “Seussville” in honor of Dr. Seuss and his many wonderful stories.  Encourage each classroom teacher to visit “Seussville” for a 15 minute book break.  Leave a small basket of Dr. Seuss books available for the students

Collect “gently” used books during the month of February or March to donate to a worthy charity.

Hold a book swap for students to bring in “gently” used favorite books to trade with other students in the building during established times.

Stop, Drop, and Read!  Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!  Wear your “Cat in the Hat” hat if you have one!  After the morning news show, announce that it is time to stop, drop, and read.

Buddy Reading!  Set aside time  to meet with another class to buddy read.

Invite guest readers to your class to read their favorite Dr. Seuss book or another favorite book

Track books read (aloud or independently) from different regions of the US and countries of the world. Mark these on a USA map and Globe.
